VACANCIES AT THE KENYA CONSULATE GENERAL

The Kenya Consulate General is inviting applications for the positions of a Cook and Housekeeper. Successful applicants will work at the Residence of the Consul General of the Republic of Kenya, reporting to the Consul General
COOK
Should be able to deliver in the following areas:
• Production
• Quality Output
• Costing
• Buffet
Duties & Responsibilities
• Plan menu items, coming up with food recipes and orders supplies and keep records.
• Participate in cooking and the preparations of foods.
• Plan meals and review with the head of the household.
• Participates in the routine preparation, cooking, and serving of food.
• Coordinates own activities to have meals ready to serve at scheduled times.
• Follow standard recipes for food preparation; tests cooked foods to determine if properly cooked and seasoned.
• Assists in maintaining the kitchen and dining area and equipment and utensils in a safe and sanitary manner.
• Evaluates cooking methods, times and temperatures to avoid over- or under-production.
• Check and purchase groceries and household supplies to maintain adequate levels
• Receives food deliveries; stores items properly to prevent spoilage.
• Oversees and assists in proper sanitation of dishes and equipment and cleaning of work areas.
• Ensures that food is stored, prepared and secured hygienically and safely
• Informs the Supervisor of problems involved with kitchen operations.
• maintain record of related expenditure
• Performs other duties of a similar or related nature at the Chancery as necessary or when assigned.
• Understand and practice safety procedures and precautions.

Education, Experience and Skills
• A minimum of a diploma in cooking, catering or any other related field.
• A minimum of two years’ experience in a busy institution.
• Ability to do costing.
• Ability to creatively present /serve food
• Proper food handling and storage procedure.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Must have drive and commitment to challenging timescales
• Excellent in proper management of kitchen equipment’s
• Maintain confidentiality
• Ability to multi-task.
HOUSE KEEPER
Should be able to deliver in the following areas
• Cleanliness
• Safety
• Maintain high standard of privacy
Main responsibilities
• Daily cleaning of the main living areas including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting
• Laundry services including managing dry cleaning
• Sweep, scrub, mop and polish floors
• Vacuum clean carpets, rugs and draperies
• Shampoo carpets, rugs and upholstery
• Dust and polish furniture and fittings
• Clean metal fixtures and fittings
• Empty and clean trash containers
• Dispose of trash in a sanitary manner
• Clean wash basins, mirrors, tubs and showers
• Wipe down glass surfaces
• Make up beds and change linens as required
• Tidy up rooms
• Wash windows as scheduled
• Iron and press clothing and linen
• Sort, fold and put away clean laundry
• Operate mechanized cleaning equipment
• Maintain all cleaning equipment and materials in a safe and sanitary working condition
• Monitor and report necessary domestic repairs and replacements

Education
• High School Certificate
• From 2years experience
• Age 30-45 years
• Possession of a Diploma in housekeeping or any certificate will be an added advantage.
Skills
• Conversant with the textile materials and cleaning standards
• Advising on technical standards on housekeeping.
